russj249 2
Just wondering if a VW sharan 12v head would be compatible with a 12v OBD1 golf mk3 block.I want a head to rebuild but she sharan heads seem to go for less :SJust wondering if there's any difference in them, or if they are all the same? Inc. if they have twin top chain etc.CheersJoe
UnitedMotorsport 55
It works just fine. You will need to block up the secondary air injection port on the front of the head.
russj249 2
ok thanks for the quick response. Never knew about that secondary air injection port, so will bear that in mind.anyway, I also noticed there's a lot more OBD2 heads for sale than OBD1's, is it just a case of swapping the timing pulleys over to make it twin top chain, or have the cams or anything else got to be changed? UnitedMotorsport 55
You can put an OBD2 head on an OBD1 block and vice versa. The cam pulleys are of no consequence, just fit the ones that are right for your engine.Cams for all '174hp' engines are all the same. russj249 2
Perfect! Thanks for the quality information as usual! Will try and get one to rebuild, or one already rebuilt if it's the right money.
