Head gasket blown - what should I do????

Recommended Posts

The garage has told me the head gasket is blowing and they have quoted me £750 for the work (including having the head skimmed)

I need to decide if I should get the work done on this engine or get a second hand/reconditioned engine.

My car has done 130,000 miles, the engine was all good apart from the obviouse. It hasn't had the chains done.

I have spent too much money on the suspension to consider scrapping the car.

One option is to get a cheap second hand engine and have that fitted but then I have to take my chances on that engine and it might not be any better than what I have got.

Another option is to get an engine that has been rebuilt.....this might cost more than having the work done to my engine but also might be a better engine.

At least if I get the work done to my engine then I know where I am with it.

Does anyone have any experience of this, or any advice?

What would you do?

Thanks for any help

Thanks for the replies......

I think a recon would be a good option......it might be more costly but possibly better in the long run.

Nero, how much is your cheap engine? What can you tell me about it?.....mileage, service history, any other info?

Is it worth having a 2.9 corrado engine fitted? My car is an OBD2
