russj249 2
Right.. i've asked so many people now and I really need an answer to whether I need a restrictor or not. I need to get the oil pipes sorted ASAP really. Its an unknown origin GT35 or T60-1 of some sort. It has a T3 divided exhaust housing and A/R70 compressor housing. From what I've been told that describes a ball bearing turbo, it is one, which is,Oil inlet smalled than outletSlight movement up and down in shaft but not lateral movementSpins more free when held perfectly horizontal rather than at 45 degree's etc. Here is a picture of the inlet, and can get a picture of oil return if it helps. Thanks
russj249 2
also what's the chances of it being normal bearings or roller bearings?
legvw 0
Why don't you take it apart?Take the compressor housing off, undo the nut on the end of the shaft holding the compressor wheel on, then undo the bolts holding the compressor back plate off, and remove to see the thrust bearing. Pull that off and see what sort of bearing is in there. Might be the only way do tell whats actually in there mate.
russj249 2
Ok Paul, that might be my only option. Are these the 2 main types I'll see?http://www.corsavxrracing.info/images/turboBearings.jpg
legvw 0
Yep, so you'll clearly see a difference once its apart.
russj249 2
Right.. Taken it apart earlier, only took 20 mins or so..Took some pics anyway, I can see 270 degree thrust bearings, and can see what looks like copper behind a circlip on the shaft, these are all the pics anyway. FishWick 21
You don't normally need restrictors on journal turbos, but run it without one first and see what happens. If you get oil leaking into the turbine housing (lots of blue smoke) then try a 0.065" restrictor like this - http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-OIL-022&Category_Code=ATP-OIL1
