mikey 0
Ok people I have just picked up a 4 mo and apart from a few niggles I love it. But ..... Sometimes on a tight corner the back feels like it drags do we think diff is shot or does it jus need a service prices and time to do the job greatly appreciated :-)
b road blaster 0
change the oil in the diff (see if any metal in the oil) and do a haldex oil n filter change then see what its like mate
bungy 2
Check to see if has even had a Haldex oil and filter change before in the S/H or when the last one was.
mikey 0
Thanks guys but havnt got too much history and I'm reluctant to spend money on a diff that's possibly no good! How sure are u that an oil and filter change could solve the problem
b road blaster 0
well its cheapest option to do the oils and if you not got much serv hist with the car it will need to be done anyway the diff only takes 1.1 lt so its not gonna brake the bank if it don't help mate
mikey 0
Ok cool I'll give it a go any idea how long it takes ?
b road blaster 0
to do the rear diff oil about 10 mins lol lol the haldex is a bit harder as bit fidderly to get filter off and the new one on i think most places charge around 60-75 for a haldex change but if you can do yourself its a cheap job if you look 4 threads down below this thread you will see a service items page that will list all the part numbers you need mate
bungy 2
If your service history is a bit lacking it is well worth changing the Haldex oil as it is supposed to be done every 20k. When you do the dif oil be sure to undo the filler before the drain.
mikey 0
Brilliant thanks guys but let me get this straight is the diff oil separate to the haldex?
b road blaster 0
yes mate it will be apparent when you see under the rear end mate basicly the haldex sits on top/in front of the diff as a seprate unit
bungy 2
2 totally seperate things. Differential to allow rear wheels to rotate at different speeds for going round corners and Haldex clutch to engage drive to the rear diff.
mikey 0
Now the good weather is here I have finally got under the car but I have noticed that the rear wheels turn independently of each other as opposed to opposite when rotated by hand is this right ??
