rsweeney 40
hi , just having trouble with removing the gearbox on the vr6 as the automatic is larger compared to the manual box, also being automatic it has the torque convertor making it even harder to manouvre the driveshaft cup around the flywheel. the gearbox is supported with a trolley jack and the back of it where the driveshafts go in is held with rope attached to a longer pole that rests on the top of each wing ( with lots of padding ) meaning i can lever some of the weight. the engine is supported with a jack. any advice would be much appreciated
Dave_ciw 507
Have you unbolted the torque converter so that it comes away with the gearbox?
rsweeney 40
noi didnt know yo-u could , how would you unbolt it ?
Dave_ciw 507
I have never done a vr6 auto but on any other auto I have done there has been an inspection plate or small dust cover. If not its through the hole were the starter motor was. You have to unbolt the 4 bolts on the back of the torque converter engine side. This is done one bolt at a time and turn it until the next bolt is visible. this way everything can come straight down. There is 2 small pins on the torque convert and you can damage them so easy if you try and remove them seperate. I think you need to get Tony to confirm as some info may be incorrrect on the VR but he knows these motors inside out.
