wwinding sound by the air con pump

Recommended Posts

Hi i have just brought my 1st vr6 its a mark 3, 98 highline model 5 door purple its just been fully resprayed just getting some finishing touches done to it ready for mot but i have a problem. I have a winding noise coming from some where by the air con pump. I,ve tried taking the tensioner right off for the power steering, when i did that i no longer hear the noise but as you start to tighten back up the noise gradually comes back. I,ve taken the belt completely off an ran the car an no noise as soon as the belt goes back on same problem. I,ve been told it could be that due to the car being parked up for over a year the previous owner could possible of had the belt over tightend which has stressed the tensioner or it could be the air con pump itself as the water pump is new does anyone have an idea what this could be as i,ve been quoted £200 for a 2nd hand air con pump and dont really want to spend that if its not really needed and could possible end up with a part with the same prob

it probley the water pump making the noise, the belt cant be over tighting as the tensioner is just a spring with no ajustments, mine whines big time too, its a mix of the tensioner and water pump making the noise, if you need parts go in the market section on this form as you should be able to get things like "air con pump" for far less then 100quid and you can ask if it makes any noise before you buy it.

It could be the air con pump or the tensioner bearing or as stated above the water pump. If its the water pump buy new if its the tensioner check a thread on here that shows how to grease the bearing and if its the AC pump send me your part number and I will do it £79 delivered with 3 months warranty.
