Has anybody successfully bypassed fan switch and module?

I have encountered problems lately regarding the fan where the fast speed setting does not work, first the fan module and then the radiator thermo switch.

Now, I would like to completely bypass both, and run a live fused feed to a two setting switch in the dash, probably by taking the power from the rear window demistor as this is next to where I wanted to mount the switch, with two settings, slow and fast, where I can operate the fan manually when stuck in traffic etc.

Is this possible? I have come to the understanding that maybe the fan module runs the auxillary water pump too? Is this cause for concern? Any help on the subject if anybody has done this in the past would be appreciated.

i have bypassed my fan swith and a few other peoples on here for tha same reason mate but i normal just put a link wire from a 12v feed to the fast speed terminal on the thermo swith plug this could be extended in to the cabin with a swith on it thou ...

Does that solution rely on the radiator fan switch working? Basically bypassing the module only so that when the temp of the coolant in the radiator reaches the 'fast setting' temperature it will kick in regardless of whether the fan module works or not? Sorry, I have a very vague understanding of this cooling system. Need to read up me thinks.
