will 16" alloys with 55 tyres fit?

Recommended Posts

i just wondered if anyone has ever had 16" alloys with 55 tyres on a standard ride height vr6? i have just bought some and cant really afford tyres yet, although the ones on them are ok,so if they would fit i would rather use the tread on them first, lol,(i aint tight i just get poor wages, lol) any help would be great! http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae67/jimmybryanvr6/vr6%20interior/Image0468.jpg?t=1276204324

Haven't you offered them up yet? They definetly don't fit with my Koni(s), the koni front strut is that much shorter and the existing tyres(205/55/16) won't even rotate as its butts up to the underside of the spring coil housing.

Always intending to go down to 205/45/16 to keep the rolling radius much the same (but its +1%) but going down to 195/45 will make it underread.

Wouldn't want to go smaller than standard 205 width, just the same with the load index. Standard load index is 86, but a lot of tyres in 205/45/16 are 83 with only a few at 87.

Narrowed down to Falkens 912s, Kumho or Hankooks with 87 index (only based on reasonable costs).

Got loads of tread on my 205/55/16 tyres which is a shame really as the speedo underreads according to my Tom Tom GPS on standand 205/50/15. The 205/55/16 is meant to overead the standard size by 5mph at 70mph. Would have used these tyres for a bit before changing to 45 profile.

Tyre choice is personal perference/ experience, I've gone onto the tyrereviews website to read what owners experiences are with their tyre choices..

Obviously tell you insurance about your new wheels and that you are going for 195 wide tyres. Never looked into it too deeply but if the standard load index is 86, is it wise to go for a lower load index? May be I am too cautious?

I am hoping on my own set up that I won't need spacers even on 205/45/16 profiles. Going to buy a cheap part-worn tyre to test first. If I do need spacers then I revert back to original size alloys. My choice is to keep the Koni & eibachs rather than to go for bigger wheels.
