How do you get the lambda sensor out?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I believe I have a problem with the Lambda sensor and so was going to remove it tonight and give it clean, I know it's getting late but I'm praying there's someone on here who's done this as I can't see anyway to get it out... it's on the TOP of the exhaust just before the cat, and even if i managed to get my adjustable spanner on to it there's no room to turn it.. do the wires unplug somehow to allow me to get my socket spanner onto it?? any help appreciated as I've finally got it up the ramps (after removing the front skirt) and really want to have a go at this...

Thanks

Ian

some times u can get a 22 or 24 mm spanner on it if not there are special sockets to go over them ... if ur replacing it y not just cut the wires off and the get a ring spanner over it ..... be carefull will prob be very tight ...

I had to remove the cat even with the proper tool, it was seized solid, as were the 3 bolts on the cat. Luckily a mate knew somebody that did the job for me in the garage he worked in, for beer tokens whilst I waited

Just in case anyone else is reading this thread wanting to know how I got on this is what i did.....

Got the car on the ramps and used a pair of monkey pliers to grab the nut holding the lambda sensor in place

a bit like these ones....

Gave it an almighty tug which free'd up the nut....

Then got some white spirit and poured some in the lid of the bottle and dipped the sensor in there for about 10 secs...

Then gave the sensor a good shake and a wipe off with a clean cloth....

Left it hanging to dry off completely whilst I had a ciggy

Then twisted the sensor anti clockwise about 5 turns so that when i screwed it back in the wires weren't all twisted up...

Then screwed it back in, using the Monkey Pliers to tighten it....

I also noticed that the little metal catch keeping the wires out the way seemed to be pinching into the cable so took the cable out, wrapped some insulation tape around it to protect it and then put it back on.....

And Voila.... no more stalling, no more excessive MPG and no more funny smell when you pull up........ how long it will last i don't know, but saved me a few quid for now, whilst i investigate what's up with my driveshaft.... and the auto gearbox...... and the solenoid valve..... lol..... 8o|
