Recentley my car started showing the ABS light constantly.

I got it on the old vag com and below are the errors found

VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Address 03: ABS Brakes

Controller: 3A0 907 379 E

Component: ABS/EDS ITTAE 20 GI V00

Coding: 03704

Shop #: WSC 00000

6 Faults Found:

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Left (G46)

35-00 - -

00283 - Front Left ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (G47)

35-10 - - - Intermittent

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Left (G46)

16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent

00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Left (G46)

04-10 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent

00287 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Right (G44)

04-10 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent

00668 - Supply Voltage Terminal 30

16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent

Can anyone iterpret these? is it likely for 3 sensors to fail at the same time? or is it more likely to be the ecu?

Where is the ECU located and are they failure prone?

And what is that supply voltage issue about?

cheers

Amit

You cant have a registered copy with ross tech as the latest release is 908.xx. Plus you have an ebay lead

You will need to clear all codes to see what is the latest as they could be from ages ago as ECU stores faults until cleared

I do have a registered copy. I went for the software only option.

It let's me download and register any version I want with my key and 409 I the only version that work with the ebay lead.

It did an auto scan then when I selected clear it said something like non aproved lead doesn't allow this function or something.

The ecu was cleared about 3 weeks ago by a mechanic who fixed another problem so I know it was clear and in that time I have done about 100 miles.

I think it's the abs ecu playing up as I can't see three sensors failing at the same time.

will give it a shot but I am fairly sure they will just come straight back as they all appeared together.

Would be handy if vagcom showed the logged date.

How do I remove the ECU? can it be removed without removing the pump?

The rear faults usually point to ecu and you can do it withou takin the pump off....exactly what i did recently. The front may need a sensor or 2. Clear them then see what happens. Clear them a few times and see which ones stay!

Right I cleared the codes but the rear left sensor code wouldnt clear. It would pop back instantly.

I then logged the wheel speed measuring blocks and it appears the rear left sensor is intermittent.

above are the speed values from the wheels.. the third col (rear left) comes and goes.

Does this mean a duff sensor or a dodgy connection?

Where can I get a replacement sensor?

yeah take your membership card in mate to get a discount :)

well am sure someone said you can swap the rear sensor's over (left to right etc) at the ECU and then check it again, if it's the same side then you know it's the ECU and if the problem then changes to the other side you know it's the sensor :)

right. Under your rear bench is where the sensors plug into the loom....swap them left to right, clear codes, get it to fault, check again if it still says the same side, as before then its ecu...if the fault follows, ie swaps side ...left sensor is dead. If so there are 2 types (where it plugs into the loom) square or round. Prob square as looking at your vagcom you got the later abs 96/97?

You guys are awesome!

Just been out to the car, working by iphone light, swapped the sensors over.

As soon as I cleared the codes, rear right came up.

So looks like I need a rear sensor with a square plug.

are the front and rear sensors the same?

Also how easy are they to fit?
