bungy 2
I was a little bored this morning and a bit frustrated with trying to go through the usual channels to get a decat for my car. Supersprint want £327 and a 4 week lead time and there are very few other options. So of to the scrapyard and got myself a downpipe and cat complete. Seperated the 2 and cut out access holes to remove the insides, which came out relatively stress free.Once removed it was time to flash up the mig set and close it all up again. All this took less than an hour. I've just got to cut and drill out the studs tomorrow as I want to put it in using nuts and bolts to make things easier.
bungy 2
One thing that did make it all easier was the build quality of the VW cat which was made of quite heavy gauge steel. I'm curious to see if I get anything at the scrapyard for the internals.
warby 0
Top job there, i dont envy your job fittin the downpipe, got my manifolds off today on the road to engine out, took me 2 hours never mind taking off the downpipe.Let us know how it goes:-dDoes anyone know if anything can be done to the manifolds while theyre off, boring them out or whatever??? bungy 2
I won't be doing the downpipes but splitting it at the end of the down pipe and replacing with my decat pipe and continuing with my Miltek. I've read that you can get usefull gains changing the manifolds but if you are keeping your oem ones then check inside for welds that can be ground back. Wouldn't it have been easier to leave the manifolds on until after the engine is out? Likewise put them back on before putting engine back in.
craggsy 91
Nice welding skills there mate......I keep saying to myself to learn welding. Not something you can just learn tho
bungy 2
MIG welding is the easiest to learn and if you ever fancy a go i've taught a few before. You'd be surprised how quick you can pick it up.

I take it mark was still off on hols?? I bet ur glad u gave it a go now! Can't wait to hear the difference and it would be interesting to see if she feels less restricted! bungy 2
Still got another week off until I go back to work and then we've got a 2 month maintenance period. I always new I could do it but didn't realise the VW cats are so well made which made the end result tidy. I had visions of paper thin metal falling apart. Other people think it won't make much difference but I can't see it myself and think it'll breathe loads better. I'll need a remap to cancel the Lambda fault that will appear. Next mission is brakes and to source an intercooler that means I can keep the stock mkiv bumper if possible.
