MarksMintness 0
Hi guys, so I replaced my crankcase breather valve today (Ford Galaxy part) and as I removed the old split one I noticed like a coil of wire like a birds nest sticking out of the metal pipe from the crankcase... i managed to get hold of it and pull it out and it was like a tightly wound coil acting as some sort of primitive mesh, but it was all twisted. Is this supposed to be there does anyone know? Or was it rammed in there by a previous owner do you think?A weird one I know!
UnitedMotorsport 55
That is fitted there by VW. It is there to stop the vacuum of the inlet sucking excess oil from the breather.
craggsy 91
I no longer have that now due to changing from plastic to polished metal one. As C2 says just to trap excess oil
MarksMintness 0
ok so should I bother putting it back?
UnitedMotorsport 55
Yeah, it will cut down on oil usage and keep your inlet less oily - or so they say.
MarksMintness 0
Ok I will cram it back in there!Cheers guys.
s3 Rich 0
i have almost pulled mine out too, and now suffer from excess oil in the air intake, does anyone think a fine mesh would be better?(or as stan & ollie would say - "thats another fine mesh you got us in" he he)something like what is used in each side of the AFM, or not in my case :-)
MarksMintness 0
No idea if VW do this as a replacement part or not!Any ideas for a suitable wire mesh substitute? I wondered about a rolled up piece of wire wool but not sure if its too thick and also don't want it falling into the crankcase!Thoughts?
