ATKO 0
have both the obd1 and obd2 2.8 engines got the same engine number?
thegoth 5
the they have the same engine identifier - AAA. Engine numbers are unique to each lump manufectured.
ATKO 0
cheers buddy, im gettin my vr soon an its a 92 on a J so i take it its an obd1?
thegoth 5
yep, obd1 with a distributer. one of the earliest. in fact I like to think VW only sold 500 or so on a J plate. Lord only knows how many are still in once piece. I've only ever seen one other in the flesh and a heard of hand full on here, like less then 10.
ATKO 0
so it will definately be worth keeping hold of for a while then?
thegoth 5
I cant ever see it appreciating in value. but as a piece of vr history mine's going no where ;-) my biggest worry is getting it written off for the smallest of car park knocks as on paper it's not worth a great deal. Can i ask how much yoy are paying for it?
ATKO 0
£4000 but its only done 32,000 miles with fsh and stacks of receipts
thegoth 5
Unlike some I don't normally go in for 'you don't want to do that, you want to do this' commentsbut for that money you could have got 2 low milage P/R reg Highlines. A VR lump is good for upto 200K miles so even those at around 80K are considered just run in.
ATKO 0
well the car is mint an i got a rly gd price wen trading in my old motor

thegoth 5
go for an agreed value insurance policy then otherwise any third parties insurer is going to have you over a barrel. As i said, i'd expect a single damaged wing to be enough to get mine written off.
ATKO 0
That is the lowest they wud go but they took my astra in at £4250
thegoth 5
does that mean they gave you £250 or that the vr asking price was £8250?if it was the former than any VR is a good swap for an astra ;-)
spoonman2 2
I would say the VR is worth about £2k if you found the right person to buy it. That is stupidly pricey IMHO.Mine has 88k on a P plate and mint and was way less than £2k
ATKO 0
they gave me £250 difference for mine but at the time i didnt know vrs are good for 200k so i was trying to get one with as low miles as i cud
spoonman2 2
Maybe I am being stupid and a very early ODB1 with very low mileage is worth good money?? Let me know someone?
ATKO 0
same here i wud like to know if iv done the right thing or not
CALICO 130
there not worth anymore than any other but his is very low mileage for the year. As nigel says there were very few on a J plate but that does not mean they are worth more than any other. Highlines are still the most sort after VR
thegoth 5
to be fair 200k examples are rare but I do personally know of at least three, ironically on P's and R's, which are at 170k+ with no more major work than timing chains and clutches along with the usual consumables.most end up in a ditch long before getting anywhere close ;-)if you ever have any worries with her I'm just a few miles south of Cambridge and will be more than willing to offer what help / advice I can. CALICO 130
It is the same old story something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay. You must have thought it was worth 4K to pay that much for it
