golfrabbit33 0
i just became a full member of the turbo club today, i broke 3rd gear and mash up the box. does anyone know of a strong gearbox, the likes of quaife or such FOR SALE ?? plus i had to drive on about a mile to my friends, how much damage would have been done to the quaife lsd attatched ?? was booked in for new disks and pads ( £390 grrr ) for the front tommorow, but it seems fixing the box and getting it running properly again will come first. pod on the 29th is my target i can only pray. just a quick rundown on the cars luck. got a puncture on the m6 on the first day(im from southend) 9 inch wide 16`s tyres are not stocked by normal dealers so 4 hours later, tyre weld came into play. that night, yes the same first night it got keyed outside my front door, then today, whilst giving it the biggun with a pal in the passenger seat i miss 3rd gear and bang, the little cog decided to become many small pieces. some help with a gearbox or a secure straight jacket would be welcomed. kie_dub 0
ive got a vr turbo, they are NOT reliable but when you put your foot down they are deffo worth it lol. I have had many things go, 1st day i got mine, driving it home, boom! thought wtf was that! pulled over, everything looked ok.. pulled away and put my foot down, was ok up until it was meant to boost... nothing! just dead! pulled over again but could not see what was wrong, drove it home in disbelief and felt like crying myself to sleep that night lol. popped the bonnet in daylight and found that the samco hose which is connected to the boost pipe from the turbo had blown off. Stuck a jubilee clip on it and that was that, problem solved! 2 days later.... rallying down the road. clunk,grind,grind,grind...wtf now!... driveshaft fully out and dragging along the floor, 25 miles away from home, no roadside cover, Good times! fixed that and the the drive shaft must have gone about another 3 or 4 times!! seems ok now though.,i could go on but ill stop myself lol!As for the box, if you look in this months issue of (cant remember which one) volkswagen golf+ of performance vw there is a feature car in, a corrado storm vr6 turbo, the guy says something like (dont quote me on this) he didnt fit a quiffe box due to expenses and got a 6 speed box with uprated 3rd 4th 5th and 6th gears as these are what take the most of a thrashing! This car was opposite the vr6oc club stand at ultimate dubs 09 aswell. If you want, ill have a look through the mags tomorrow and try and find out moreGOOD LUCK sorting it for spring fest i am going but think the oil stem valve or piston rings are on the way out and dont wanna risk blowing her up
golfrabbit33 0
i was planning on keeping just for a year, but it has got me allready,i think i will keep it for longer. taking the gearbox out tonight, trying to source a quaife gear set as cheap as possible. i know that it will happen again and again so just going to go for straight cut quaife gears. might have to come to gti with a standard box so not too sure about ragging it hard. any help appreciated with gear set
