jameshig 0
Hi iv just bought my first vr6 today and iv been out to give it a good drive to find any faults.Every thing seemed fine until i noticed a big cloud of steam behind me, i pulled over straight away and found a coolant hose had blew off, could this be a problem of too much pressure or as simple as a poorly fitted jubily clip?cheers
spindat45 0
Hoses don't usually blow off unless they haven't been fitted correctly or the clip hasn't been tightened properly. Best to re-fit the hose if it's not split or damaged and the clip, Refill with coolant and run it with the cap off and the heater on hot (full blast) to get rid of any air locks. once the thermostat has opended both top and bottom hoses should be roughtly the same temp when touched. Do this until the temperature is at half way then replace the cap and wait for the fans to switch on and off. This may take a while. Switch the engine off and leave the engine to cool down properly and for the coolant to find a sensible level. Top up if necessary then take it for a run but keep an eye on the water temp gauge and stop occaisionally to make sure there are no leaks under the bonnet. Be sure to use Pink antifreeze and not just water or the usual blue or yellow stuff. Kevin
jameshig 0
Il do all that this week, im going to have to change the heater matrix to i think as when i turn the heaters on steam just pours out the vents and after the car has been driven wen you come back after 10 mins its all steamed up. does this sound like a bust matrix? spindat45 0
Indeed it does. Wet carpets in the front footwells too?
jameshig 0
Yeah the carpets are wet to. Its a trip to euro parts in the morning for a matrix then i can start figuring out how to fix dubs
mpgscott 0
Pain in the arse of a job but you can do it without removing the steering columb. Dont want to do that as there are nuts that need replaced as they require breaking in order to remove, simply remove the dash (aint to bad a job) then remove all the nuts and bolts holding the heater assembly in place and simply get someone to jam a bit of wood in and prize it out while you swap over the matrix worked for me!I did mine about a month ago what a difference once its done.Just out of interest did you happen to notice what oil temp the car was running at? I ask because if your water pump is fooked like mine was then the system might be over pressure and thus caused your pipe to go and the matrix to pop!Worth a gander how many miles has the car done? mpgscott 0
Yeh mine was at 114K when it went, its likely to be an original water pump and will probably be fecked. For the price of them and since the system will be empty i would change it easy job.
