VR6Nat 9
Hey guys i am thinking of getting some coilovers but im really tight on money so ive been looking around and found Fk do a 'powertech suspension kit' which will lower my car 40mm its £361.The FK Highsport coilovers are £471, but they are adjustable if i wanted to go lower in the future...... , do you think the coilovers are worth the extra money? Im only going down 40mm and i want to have the nicest ride possible....Anyone used either of these? What should i go for? *-) *-) *-)
thegoth 5
the highsports are rated well, but the height adjustment is prone to sieze. I've also read that unless near the top, or was it bottom *-) , they are overly firm. Which i would tend to agree with, although being poly bushed up probably doesn't help my lack of suspension. It is quite common for my seat belt to lock when going over bumps.I havent heard of the first ones and I'm sure other people will review their own setups. Also check with your insurer, some are OK with drops of upto ~50mm where as further than that can cause problems / highly inflated premiums. IIRC the highsports can manage 80mm.
ip 0
Flying in the face of popular opinion here I know but......I've tried FK Highsports and boge turbogas shocks with 30mm lowering H&R springs. Though they both did a lot for the appearance of the car (and improved roundabout antics) neither provide a really plush ride. Currently I am running boge shocks/standard springs on the back and H&R springs with boge shocks on the front with a raising top cups to get a 20mm lowering. This gives the car a nice profile and great handling even when loaded (at least as good as the FKs) but is still a bit crashy on Edinburgh's pot holed roads. However (after spending several hundred pounds and many weekends of tinkering) on balance I would probably recommend upgrading the shocks (the old ones will be worn out), keeping the standard springs and just stuffing a nice set of 16" or 17" wheels under the arches instead. This would give a better sporty ride (on account of the shocks), max comfort and the wheels would fill those gaping gaps under the arches that the 15" standard wheels leave. The best handling VR6 I've driven was my mates rado which uses the same springs as the Golf but was fitted koni shocks instead of the standard units.Just my thoughts.....ip
