My Mulberry Highline

Recommended Posts

Alright guys!

I never used to post much on here (just browse) because I never had a VR6, but now that I've finally got one, I'll be posting more often!

I've owned several Volkswagens now, including:

A Mk1 Golf GX, a Mk2 Golf GTI, a Mk2 Golf CL, a Mk3 Golf Ryder, and most recently a Mk3 Golf SE, but the one thing I've always wanted, is a VR6.

Well I've just purchased a 1996 Golf VR6 Highline 3dr in Mulberry. There's a funny story behind it though. 2 weeks ago, somebody said to me "If you could have anything for christmas, what would it be" so I smiled and replied "A Golf VR6". The same day, I went out for a drive, and what did somebody offer me? You guessed it, a Golf VR6!

Well anyway, to cut a long story short, I spoke to dad and he let me borrow the money so I now have the car sitting on my driveway :)

The car is in pretty good condition, apart from slight rust on the rear arches, and the paint has worn off the sill on the drivers side which I'm assuming is where you get in and out and your leg rubs against it?

I got it for a bargain price from my local scrapyard.. and later discovered it has mot til June next year! It was taken in as a 'non runner' but the man at the scrapyard said he put a decent battery on it and it fired up. I was a bit suspicious of this, as if that was the case, why was it scrapped? Well whilst driving home, the car overheated, and we pulled over by a garage, who had a quick look over it and said it was the head gasket! I wasn't gunna give up on the car so I waited 3 days for my dad to have a look at it, he replaced the thermostat and I've had no problems since ;)

Anyways. I'll stop going on now and just post up some pics! Let me know what you think :)

Here are the first pics I took. Shite quality cus my camera doesn't like low lighting conditions, and the car wasn't even clean lol

Blimey, I go away for 5 mins and already got 4 replies, I love this forum! lol.

Well I didn't really wanna tell anybody the price in case I need to sell it (I'd wanna make a profit) but I can't see me selling it any time soon so.. I paid 900 quid for it :) With 130k on the clock, I know it's high but it has service history to back it up!

The reason I bought it is so that I can get it how I want it, and then insure it in a year and a half (when I'm 20)

I think it was well worth the money though, everything still works as it should, including the air con and the heated seats! :)

Thanks for the comments so far guys! Keep them coming!

Been round the block in it once already (on trade plates) just to check it didn't overheat anymore, and I have to say it's only a little faster than my 1.4... LOL!

I actually got scared when I put my foot down, I'm so used to my gutless Golf SE :-|

Best quote I've had is 3 grand :( Only been driving 6 and a half weeks though.

When I'm 20 it goes down to 1200 which I can live with cus at the end of the day it is a rather high performance car!

vr6 isnt actually a peformance car it was designed as a luxuray cruiser, not that high on power realy but guess for some one driving 6 weeks it is!!! :o , but i know what you saying.,...

Well progress is a bit slow at the moment due to the horrible weather :(

Although there's not much I can do to the car anyway, cus I'm a bit skint at the moment.

I'm now considering selling the car as I have no money to do anything with it...

You're not wrong lol. I really love this car and I'd be sad to see her go, but I guess in the long run, I'm better off selling as it'll just be wasted sitting on my drive for 2-3 years. Plus it'd give me some spare cash to spend on my other Mk3.
