krave 0
hey people today i have set apon a task of fitting a new head to a engine i have and changing the timing chains, rails and tentioners. I have a few questions tho and was hoping someone could help me out. first is at the top of cylinders 2,3,4 and 5 is soot (would imagine its there in one and six also but as the engine is a tdc i cant really see), also a slight ring arountd the top of each cylinder where the head gasket is. should i remove this all before putting together or not? and if i do, what should i use? mightymidget 0
Get the head skimed.. Once removed they are prone to warp. You need a good clean, flat surface on both the head and deck. A head skim is only about £25.00 and will give you peice of mind. If you decide to remove just the carbon I've found Wynns Carb Cleaner works great. You can get it from Halfords, but go careful, this stuff is very harmful.
