kniterider 0
me coil pack has gone tits up and am waiting for a replacement to be delivered, ive stripped mine right down and it seems the the unit with in the pack (theres 3 twin coil units) thats nearest the radiator thats failed as im getting no spark on cylinder 6 and 1 (makes no difference with leads on or off.. lol) , the car will run on the remaining 4 cylinders but starts dying every now and then on 4 / 3 so im assuming that that coil pack is starting to break down also when the engine warms up, now my question is seen as cylinders 6/1 , 4/3 , 2/5 are running off the individual units that they are sparking both at the same time on for example cylinder 6 and 1 at the same time (even though cylinder no1 may be at the end of its compression stroke is number 6 just finishing its exhaust stroke ) and so on and so on... if so i can make my own pack from 3 twin units mounted on a plate , the wiring seems simple enough from what ive seen stripping the pack down.ive tried to use the search function to find any mods like this (theres some very posh msd ones on vortex) , but i wasnt sure if any one had tried a cheaper alternative on here or even tried to use a coil pack (much cheaper lol) from an alternative 6 cylinder car???cheers!! kniterider 0
just been on that vwvortex site and i think ive sussed it all now... i was right about it firing two at the same time 'wasted spark' as they put it.... also sussed this 'icm' ignition control module which is part of the coil pack but re useable if ok, so i think im going to try and convert my existing 'icm' to using another 6 cylinder coil pack cough cough (vauxcrap) which is like £10 on ebay... which is a damn site cheaper that what ive even paid for a 2nd hand coil pack.... will post what comes of my experiments with my old coilpack/icm once my new one is on the car so i can use it again!! lol

Would it work1.8t packs maybe too short, R32 ones are longer and have an angled plug which would be more suitable. You will need a short runner inlet though.
