ip 0
So I'm planning to whip the top off the engine this weekend (just the cam cover) so I can have a quick look at the top chains and guides. While I'm in there I might have a quick look at the lifters on cylinder one (which seem a little rattly). If I were to need to replace a lifter or two how hard is this?Obviously you need to remove the cams and put them back in without changing the timing but, assuming I can mange this, how easy is it to get the lifters themselves in and out of the head? Any special tools required?Cheers,ip
Phat VR6 3
Nope you just lift them out, Couldn't be more easy dude. Put the new ones in 10/40 oil and prime them before you put them in with plenty of oilMake sure the cam caps go back where they came from (number them) as you can't swap them around, Use torque wrench and tighten in order As long as you can do the timing your all good, If your high miles then you might aswell change the chains or atleast the guides ect while your down thererun the engine up to temperature, turn off and after 10 minutes or so remove your rocker cover try putting a feeler gauge between the cam lobe and hydrolic tappet, If its really bad the dodgy will show up
Lizard Racing 0
I use a valve lapping tool to pull/slde them out.
ip 0
Cheers guys, good advice. I'm going to do top chain guide while I'm in there but I don't think you can do more than that without removing the G'box and that is a bridge too far for me this weekend.BTW, will I need a new gasket for the inlet manifold?
