Locohama 0
Hi guys, my VR6 burns a lot of oil, and I mean a lot. The engine is on 128k miles and the timing chains are needing done so I am thinking about rebuilding the head, but just wanting to make sure what is wrong so I know what to look for.I noticed that I get a lot of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust if I put 3/4-full load on the engine at low engine speeds, such as 1000-1500rpm, does this sound like valve stem seals or piston rings? Where is the best place to get a head rebuild kit and timing chain kit? The car is an R plate Highline MK3 Golf running OBD2.Thanks Mark
cabrioman 6
u should get new valve stem seals in a head gasket set mate as for piston rings depends how much of a rebuild u wanna do ... do it all and it will be a `new` engine .... and be good for another 100k miles ... vr6newcomer 1
i had my head rebuild from a place called race power engineering near maidstone, ill get the guy's number if you want it, also gave him the inlet to polish and port match, this old boy is their specialist and he sits there taing his time and doing a nice methodical job, cost £600, but that was cash, and that was just the head rebuild, the labour on the stripdown/ rebuild was separate.
