lost and confused

while searchin for a engine I came across a non running mk2 with a vr6 already under the bonnet. Snapped it up for 800quid. So trailered back to Sheffield, took front end off and tried to work out were to begin. Not having any history of the swap and not having been completed isn't helping. We've got power onto the coil but no spark? At least the engines not seized.
