wills83 0 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 hi guys.. i have an issue. im looking at buying a 1992 vr6 in mint condition apart from the obvious( snapped timing chain).. will i have to take the head off completly? the bloke reckons its bent the valves. i will be repairing it myself and just wonderd how much would i be looking for parts?.. would be great if someone could help as im not clued up with these engines.. cheers. cabrioman 6 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 depends if top or bottom chain has gone but imop id replace both top and bottom (bottom chain gearbox out). .... if the valves are bent yes head will have to come off and pistons will need to be checked for damage too mate ... heads do come up no here so just check the for sale section think there is a few on there at the mo .... jims13 6 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Share Posted August 24, 2008 YEAH , i have a head for sale, all good and no bent valves..and as ton says do both the top and bottom chains as this very recentley happended to my mate. headgasket and bolts will cost around 70 quid from euro car parts . rest is relativley cheap , factor around 200 squid all in and it wont be far out.
