Rick_1138 0
Hi all,i have a 93 metallic black golf 3 VR6 3 door.I have plans, however i am not 100% sure how to go about it.The biggest issue is the plastic trim around the car.The car has the pre 95/06 bumpers that are half painted\half black plastic, and tbh they are starting to go grey. I use meguiars back to black stuff, it does make them look good again, but you have to re-apply it every fortnight, and to be honest a metallic wine coloured post 95 car past me and the complete coloured car looks a lot better. However i am unsure about what to expect if i take off the wheel arch plastics, is the car painted under them? Also the mid level plastic trim, meets the wheel arch plastics, i have read that i need GL type side trim, but i am unsure about what bits i actually need. Can anyone giove me some pointers as to what cars to look for, i.e. 3 door 8v cars etc.The other main plan is to either turn my black plastic bumpers into all painted\smoothed out numbers using, sanding, plastic filler and normal cataloy, i have done panel work before so i know what i am lookinf to do, but i am curious if anyone has done this process and could explain any issues they had etc.The other ioption is to buy econd hand post 95 car bumpers and work on them, but does anyone know if they are the same fitment, i.e. bolt on swap, as well as the colour matched side runners.I will post pics of the car as is when i get back from my GF's house next week (she lives 80 miles away!) all advice welcome, this forum seems very friendly and have received good advice already for some other issues.Rick
richievr 1
easiest way will be to get 95 on painted bumpers and side trims. they will fit straight on so no probs there..just be a matter of getting them painted the right colour obviously.you could as you say smooth and detexture your existing bumpers but i guess that would be more effort..and you will need the gl spec side trims, as you say, if you are going to remove the arches... the car will be painted under the arches, but they will probably have scratched it all over, and the arches may be rusty underneath.. all painted bumpers are the same, and the gl spec side trims are the same size and shape as the painted side trims...
