frannybigballs 0
a rust issue (which some will see at Tatton) and i'm wondering how much rear quarters are and the work involved. how much are they, and i know it involves a fair bit of bodyshop work. but i'm preparing now for later in a way, it's either that or a cab transplant, whichever is the cheapest just thought i'd ask the community

Saunders82 0
i know its hard to admit but when cars get need bodywork like this its usually time to just move on. The panels them self i think geniune including half the sill are £200 each but you could be looking at 1500-2000 bills once your finished due to both sides needing blending in. But if you go that far you might as well get a respray ... when do you stop.My experience with mk3's is if there starting to rust theres way more than whats on show. or there stupidly mint cars with no defects what so ever!. I had a early mk3 i dont think one panel escaped some sort of rust. Which sucks

I had a early mk3 i dont think one panel escaped some sort of rust. Which sucks Well if everyone had that attitude towards their dubs, we'd have very few show cars older than mk3s! At the end of the day i know my money is being thrown away on the car when it comes to bodywork, but i love driving my VR. Dont see many highlines around in my area so it makes it that bit more special to drive round in it. So its more sentimental reasons i want it looking nice again, so i dont mind spending a fair bit on sorting her out, once I have the cash!!!
frannybigballs 0
i'm with you on that one damo. better the devil you know, than the one you dont. the engine and mechanicals on mine are very good seeing as it's done 134k, and nothing major has gone wrong touch wood. i love the colour (mystic blue, the best as polled on vr6oc =) ) and i like the noise. i dont really give a rat's ass about the rust and the dents, and the scratches by mindless and shite drivers, but its mine, and i want her to look her best, whether in full evening gown, or looking like a slag (topless!) lol
Damo 85 0
PMSL!!!! exactly, i've just spent an absolute wedge gettin loads of mechanical bits sorted. literally the interior is still in stunning original condition (mint wooden gearknob, original mulberry floormats etc), the rust is the only down side, and it can be sorted. so im not giving up just yet LMAO! frannybigballs 0
as long as its done before its gets right out of hand, i don't care. one day she'll end up track prepared, sort of anyway, but until then i just want rid of the rust
mike 6
i got quoted 600+ fitting pper pannel yesterday! but they said you can just buy teh actual arch, and have that part welded into the pannel! much cheapermine are rotten too
Saunders82 0
sorry if i came accross abit harsh im not slagging people of for spending loads on there cars to get them how they like. Im the same i payed well over the odds for my car why ? because the preivous owner had done all the work on the car to get it just right. The previous guy loved the car and inturn i now love the car to peices I guess i would find it hard to justify if i had to pay say 2500 for a complete respray and repair when i know you could get one a mint one for 3500-4000.again im not trying to cause offenece or anything like that but if i was to pay that amount ill really have to weigh up the pros and cons of getting that sort or repair done. xyber 1
Mines fooked underneath, failed the MOT big time!!! It goes in for surgery tomorrow, interior stripped, rust cut out and properly plated back in so you'd never knowall caused the a previous owner being a prick and using the shite scissor jack and mashing the jacking lips, water got behind and sat there rusting it from the inside out so badly even the jacking point seam/lip is being cut off and rebuilt, the the cavity will be pumped full of waxoyl and then the whole underneath of the car undersealed and re-assembled, ready for the MOT retest on Tuesif rust needs doing, best approach is overkill everytime, else 6 months down the line it will appear againno other option for me, after the full respray and engine mods done since xmas, all I can do is repair it 8o|
frannybigballs 0
i know that saunders, didnt take it any way, good or bad my jack lip is mashed too, sounds like more rust will appear in time then too. it's annoying that i'm a student at 29, and know in 3 years i'll be on a wedge and can buy what i want within reason, but the truth is, all i want is my mystic blue golf to look straight with awesome paint. that'll do for me
