Yes it is possible to do yourself as long as you have a good socket set, torque wrench, bentley manual and access to an impact driver.

The impact driver is ideal for the cam sprocket bolt which is lock tighted in.

You must ensure you time it up correctly using the marks and a camshaft alignment plate BEFORE removal of cams.

I have just replaced all my tappets, valves, springs & cylinder head. I got my tappets from the states & it was cheaper than buying a set from GSF, VAG or Eurocarparts. My engine sounds so sweeeet now. Make sure when you put the cams back that the slots in the ends of the cams are perfectly horizontal with the surface of the head in that you should be able to insert a flat metal plate to keep the cams still.
