Mk3 vr6 (obviously!!) random clicking from engine. HELP!!!

Right, the missus' vr has a random clicking noise coming from the engine when on and off load as well as when you turn. I have changed the following things and the noise seemed to go but it still happens every now and then.

Things changed so far are:

Wishbones (all are now polybushed)

Track rod arms

Droplinks

Topmounts (not new, but fairly new, swapped them over when i done engine conv)

Subframe and front crossmember have been tightened and torqued up

Driveshafts (used the original 8v driveshafts after finding alot of play in the vr driveshafts)

Ive also got vf mounts on the front and gearbox side as well. I havnt got round to doing the rear engine mount, but there is no visible movement when i do the first gear/handbrake up test.

Has anyone else had this problem with their vr as i am beginning to think that this is going to be a process of elimination with could deem expensive beacuse a little gremlin is whispering in my ear, 'gearbox, gearbox'!!!

Please help me save some time and money guys!

Not anything common like the serpentine belt tensioner bearing running dry or water pump wearing out etc?? where abouts in the bay is the noise coming from?

Does it do it only when moving??? Sounds like a CV joint

From the bottom of the car, could it be inner cv's, do you think?

could be.. ive always known shot cv's to be more of a clunk on full lock, worth a look though
