jcorallo 0
Hi,Been Googling for 02A LSD's to see what else is out there for us.Seems to be three other off-the-shelf LSD's for the 02A that I can see (interestingly no mention of any of these on the vr6oc forums...):1) Kaaz - this is a clutch type (i.e. true) LSD - 1.5 way - costs about the £550-£600 mark. http://www.kaazuk.com/2) OBX - this is a helical LSD - 2 way (?) - and is said to be a fake Quaife with poor build quality, cost about the £250 mark(!). Check eBay or Google for a seller.3) Phantom Grip - this is an LSD conversion 'insert' for your existing differential - 2 way - cost about £200 for the insert. http://www.phantomgrip.com/ARP diff bolts could be used at somewhere between £50-£75.From what I can gather, the Kaaz would be the best option since its a true LSD and therefore works even when one wheel is totally off the ground, unlike the Quaife/Peloquin helical design which still allows the lifted wheel to spin. They are meant to be noisey on slow turns however and also require special transmission oil and a breaking in procedure. Also since it uses internal friction clutches/plates these would wear out and so need replacing/rebuilding eventually so its not a fit-and-forget design like the helical Quaife/Peloquin/OBX/The OBX it seems is a wholesale copy of the Quaife / Peloquin helical design. There have been reports of very bad build quality but most people seem to be able to get them to work OK if you re-build the diff yourself prior to installation, using new belleville springs, bolts and cleaning any swarf out the threads etc. There are how-to instructions dotted around the web.The Phantom grip is right at the bottom of the pile being an insert into your existing differential. They are a couple of spring loaded plates that push against the driveshaft gears, and then pivot against the spider gears if one wheel spins causing the spider to lock. People say you can feel them but very mixed reports. In theory they should work given their design but its said they can screw up your spider gear bushes. Also reports of the internal springs falling out and damaging the rest of the gearbox.Discuss!Jules
