TaNgOzVR6 13
Hellooo again, I was wondering if anyone knew what would be the best cams and tappets to get for a VR6?? iv had my chains and tensioners replaced as the car had done 90,000 miles and sounded very tappety, the engine is still tappety so i thought changing the tappets and up rating the cams (might as well.. )would be the next thing to do..?? the car in question is a golf P reg vr6 highline.CheersH
FishWick 21
Best tappets = INABest cams = Depends on what you're trying to achieve. Cams on their own will give comparitively small gains, unless used on a turbo engine where the right grind can give exceptional results. If you want more top end, 268s are good. If you want a bit more midrange, 248s.Before you replace the tappets, I would replace the serpentine belt and tensioner first because when worn, they can exhibit a clattering / tapping noise also.....as can old, tired injectors. To test, run the engine with no belt for a short while.
Phat VR6 3
INA tappets. Is that a make? Not an abbreveation? Whats better about them..Light weight?
FishWick 21
INA is the make VAG use mate. It's stamped inside the tappet next to the valve stem perch. They're better because they're reliable. Unbranded and Meyle tappets I would avoid.Light weight tappets don't really acheive much. If you're going over 7500rpm, you'd be better off with solid lifters. You'll need the springs to match and titanium caps.
