Devildub_06 0
Hi, after a long time away, and after stupidly selling my beautiful 3 door highline, I have the opportunity of acquiring a '94 dark blue 5 door vr6 for literally next to nothing (identical to the one in my avatar). I would love to do something a bit different and was wondering if any of you lads or lasses had removed your rubbing strips altogether and smoothed out the doors?? Is this a good look, or is it pants??Cheers
craggsy 91
Its been done before and think it looks wrong. It need metal plates welding into gaps left by rubbing strips
Devildub_06 0
Would it look even more pants if I was to dehandle the doors and go completely smooth with it? I've got no problems at all with welding plates etc as I have a BS4872 in TIG welding.
xyber 1
without the strips it leaves the doors looking featurless I think, if you want a smoother look audi door handle conversions tidy it up alot as they are flush with the panel and body coloured
Devildub_06 0
That was my second thought, think I may go with that idea, and yes I think you're right about the doors looking featureless without strips, I suppose just high build prime and colour coding fits the bill quite nicely? xyber 1
yeh it blends them in abit, replace all the fixtures and grommets on the back though when you re-fit them
Bobtrude 0
I like the smooth very much. If i had the chance i would smooth my doors, and bumpers, and handles, and tailgate. If i where to style my vrt that is. But not only the doors without the rest of the car.
Phat VR6 3
I like smooth and im going to smooth my handles but leave the strips. imo its one of the other. if i was to remove my strips id have some A6 handles on it. I think the strips help brake the car up abit and also carry the line on left from the bumpers + they protect the door for where you have to leave it in asda car park where no one gives a shit about leaning there doors on yours.. Devildub_06 0
As I have been thinking further about this idea, I was looking at a mk5 I have in work and wondered would it look any good if I removed the originals, plated and filled the doors and had a stab at putting mk5 type rubbing strips on for a bit of fresh style?? Or has anyone done this?? Many thanks
