Benefits of a Tubular turbo manifold

Recommended Posts

A mate of mine spoke to a garage that specialise in custom exhaust, manifold and piping and they gave him a really good price for a custom manifold and downpipe for his 1.8t and it got me thinking . . . . . . Would it be worthwhile running a tubular manifold instead of the usual log type manifolds seen on more vr6 turbos?

Any info on this would be great,

Ken.

I think if I was to get one, id got for the dubpower one, looks abit more sturdy than say the raceland one and I think it has a flexi section aswell at the bottom so I would think that would minimise any stresses on it that would cause it to crack

The Dubpower manifold is for a N/A not a turbocharged one.

I'd be going to Meercat Exhausts for the manifold ( http://www.meercat-exhausts.com/ ) a very well known company with customers such as the late Colin McRae and Keith Cowie, the manifold would be an equal length item. I've been quoted around £800 do you think thats an alright price?

I'd consider paying £800 if they could demonstrate some tangible improvements over a cast manifold to justify the cost....and reassurance that it would fit perfectly. If not, stick to the tried and tested VR6 Turbo manifolds that are already available.
