krave 0
Hey people finally got the money to get my vr on the road, but have a few ?'s. I posted on another site so i will copy and paste and see if i can also get some help here. i took my vr6 foir a little drive today and it really doesnt feel like what i thought it should. Its a 1992 k reg vr6, its covered 87923 miles, paperwork to prove its genuine. The thing is that when i have taken it for a little drive to see what its like its very hesitant, does not feel much faster than my 100bhp 1.6. the power does not feel like its the smoothest or the most potent, however you can feel the power as the clutch comes up. Also like there is maybe flat spots through the rev range. When it first started for the last few days there has been alot of smoke and water coming from the exhaust sometimes i think its slightly blue, but i think thats me being paranoid. however when i ran it for half hour earlier it seemed to go. The car has not been serviced in 15000 miles/3 years and has been sitting for almost a year, so im hoping a good service and a very good run and clean through should see it good.Does any one have any idea on this, or could it be the fact its been sitting almost ten months?/All help appreciated as i want to get her insured for the next weekend, Thanks in advance guys. amazak 3
Maybe a service?? Wrong plugs or even dodgy leads....?
tonk 0
1500 miles without a service is not good! give it a full service ie plugs leeds oil filters and it should be as good as new.
krave 0
yeah it does need servce, but surely would not cause it to run like this. took it for a longer drive today and it didnt clear up at all, very flat through the rev range, yu can feel that it should be putting you back, it just isnt. going to get it on vag.com tommorow. Well not sure if what they have is vag.com but the have a diagnostics kit.
Bobtrude 0
This could be a whole lot of problems. Should get it on VAGCOM. A friend of mine had this problem, (exept the water and smoke) and it turned out to be the maf having a bad connection. You can also check the vacum for what its worth. krave 0
thanks for your replys. I just hope it doesnt cost too much, im setting myself a limit at about £400. This should be resonable shouldnt it?
amazak 3
£400 is far too much, unless yuo are not going to do things yourself? Become a premium memeber and there are loads of guides and technical docs to help you D.I.Y style.
tonk 0
have you put any fuel in it sins you started driving it? petrol can go flat after some time
krave 0
Yeah a fair bit, its annoying me to be honest. I havent stopped reading up and am starting to worry about a head gasket, i can magine its not this, just so desperate to get on the road. plus i have no residue on the filler cap, couldnt really tell if there was oil in the coolant tank, looked a bit murky, but when i took a little out it seems ok, smelt a bit rough, but thats it. drue1 0
i fitted plugs leads dissy cap and rotor arm in mine and its like a different car.so spend some cash and love on the motor and u will feel the difference
tonk 0
im sure a service will sort it, my mate just picket up a corado 16v for £50 the other day it had no mot and had been stood up for over a year. it started fine with a new battery but drove dead slow no go to it at all, that night having a look under the bonnet all the ht leeds were arking out every where so after a full service its as good as new.... and its got 220k miles on it.so go out to you car tonight and have a good look around with the engine running. krave 0
Well the car is in vw at the moment and they have just called to say they cant find any problems with the ignition etc etc, or faults. have not got a list of fault codes yet tho. The only thing they have told me as yet really is that they are moving on to a compression test. Dont know what to do from here or what to think, Surely it can only be omething big and costly??EDIT: could it still be the maf, someone please let me know.
