steering wheel removal problem

Recommended Posts

Evening fellaz..

Iv got a little problem with removing the factory airbag steering wheel in my MK3, there are two allen key type bolts at the rear of the steering wheel to remove the air bag, one has undone quite easily but the other wouldnt budge and now iv sheered the bolt so there isnt any thread in the bolt now!!

Does anyone know how i can get this nut off??

Thanks for your help

post a pic mate' date=' id be weary of drilling it, you could set the bag off and get a face full of black and decker moving very fast

Disconnect the battery first for half an hr or so, then drill it if ur going down that route!

Not something i have heard off with regards to the bolt shearing.

If you want to drill it also remove the cowling around the steering column. There should be a yellow plug disconnect this as its for the airbag. Should be less likely to go off once disconnected but i would say the risk is always there!

sounds like a nightmare, I dont know how you would get a drill in there to begin drilling it out, not much space...

Mine both came out without any issues at all on both of my recent VR's, just to rub it in, but I have never heard of them being that hard to get out...

I know you can get tools that will bite into what is left of the bolt or nut once it has been rounded off/out. I would try that first but sounds like someone has had a powerbar on it!!! :)
