Phat VR6 3
Right yet another question from me lolMy heart lies with a Turbo VR 4*4 drive convertion from 4motion in my Mk3 pushing big BHP, but due to my age (21) ive relised that altho I could aford to do it i should be saving for a house and insurance would be almost be imposible. So ive desided to get my car how i want it but leave the Turbo ect till im abit older, So ive desided to keep my engine prity much standard, Im doing a rebuild atm anyway Im changing the chains, Cams, Pistion rings, headbolts (standard not ARP and putting a HC 3 layer metal headgauskit in which is ment to work well with NOS!Hears the qwestion, Should i gap the rings more because im planing on using NOS?I know i should change the spark plugs too to lower temputer!Does anyone use NOS on there VR and is it safe to do so? Should i change anythink else while i rebuilding it?Next qwestion is Cams248, 252, 263, 264, 268, 27I understand that 248s are the best for turbos and chargers, But 263 and 264 are also good for forsed induction, 268s and 276s are popular in NA motors but no good for turbos? Is this rightI want somthink which will increase performace on my NA with NOS yet still be good to use for when i get turboed, So am i right in thinking that 264s are the cam i want? With so many cams out there its hard to choose? Thanks for any help given Tom
FishWick 21
I like 263 low overlap cams. Good compromise between performance and low rpm refinement. Good for turbos too. 268s will work also providing they are low overlap or you could blow all your boost out the exhaust valves :-)More care required when mapping turbos to big cams aswell, but it's doable.I'd leave the ring gaps as they are.NOS or Turbo, either way, your insurance will be crippling. I'm an old bastard (34) and I pay £980 to insure my VRT (agreed 400hp limit) - no convictions, full NCD, 10K a year to and from work and kept in a garage. so I hate to think how much your insurance would be!!I'd leave the NOS personally, stick to good old fashioned boost :-)
