Put my sharan vr6 s in to a local spescialist in fife to get the lifters done and the chain tensioners done. (59000mls) tensioners dont like it when you miss 5th and hit 3rd when racing nephews 2.2 vtec. Destroyed the tensioners had to get engine removed as bolts sheered, back to problem when engine cold for about 2min sounds fantatic. Unfotunatly when it warms up a loud tick starts went back to complain but told that it was an oil feed problem i recon faulty lifter. Totaly sick of said spescialist who else in fife can rectify this fault as like annoying wee boy racers but ticking annoying.

Hmm. A tick when warmed up suggests that something is loose and the cold oil (which is more viscous) is preventing the parts from knocking together. is the tick "in-time" with your engine RPM? I.e. does it tick for every one rotation of the crank? Or is it double the engine RPM? If it's double, it's a piston ring that's broken, (my first thought), if it's not, then something else is a miss. Can't think what though!

ticking gets louder and faster as engine reved it is a faulty tappet. as a couple of mechanics have listened to it both have said sometimes this happens. the stealth bomber needs some attention for this but the problem i have is that everyone seems to scared to touch it.I have lost faith in the local spescialist in fife any one know of someone in this area who would be able to tackle this correctly. the main issue i think with working on this vehicle is that this vehicle is designed for a 4 pot deisel not a vr6 but a great combo none the less

That's strange. Surely a noisy tappet should be noisy from start up? Mine are noisy for about 1/4 of a second when I start my engine, then go quiet. All my old VW's (about 5 of them) had noisy tappets that were noisy all the time. One car had two noisy tappets that started noisy, and then and then stayed noisy. Tappets are fairly straight forward to replace. I don't understand why your local garage isn't willing to sort it out. If you really get stuck, why not ask VW to sort it? It won't be that expensive, plus you'll have the peace of mind knowing that the "pro's" have sorted it. Failing that, why not try flushing the oil system with one of the many additives on the market to see if that sorts it.

if it gets noisier when its warmer and continues to 'tap' with the engine revs it could be the bottom end going or gone sadly. mine did after i drove it hard for a few miles.

you sure the sound coming from the top of the engine and not the bottom?
