Engine starts tickling the revs but dies when revved to 2000rpm

Hi, i started my obd1 vr6 golf the other day and it cut out when i backed off the revs, it started again fine and drove to work (2 miles). On the night it started and drove back fine... but later that night (car cold again) when i tried to start the car i could only do so by gently tickling the throttle. As soon as the car is revved to 2000 rpm it dies, similairly if you plant the throttle to rev it hard it dies. Any help and advice would be appreciated. I'm very new to vr6's so i'm not up on all the part abbreviations yet.

could be anything mate see if u can get the fault memory read by some one and go from there but dose sound like the porblem i had and it was a split or left off vaccum hose on the under side of the throttle body .....
