MartinL 0 Posted November 25, 2006 Report Share Posted November 25, 2006 Recently bought a VR6. 1993 Auto, 5 door. No mods. All seems good, brakes, suspension etc etc except there is a noise. Sounds like a quiet dishwasher, (honestly that's what it sounds like), coming from the top of the engine, opposite end to the chain I think. Love the car, pulls as I think it should, but any ideas what this could be? Clearly audible from inside the car when idling but cant hear it when actually driving. SankysVR6 1 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Share Posted November 27, 2006 Sound like your Aux water pump but that's on the gearbox side. After you've switched your car off have a look and listen on this side for the pump humming away. It should stop after 10mins or so, and should be continually running when the engine is on.However if it's on the airbox side as you describe it could be that the belt tensioner bearings have dried out.
