vr6highline28 0
had 2 new tyres fitted to the vr and guess what ? came back over torqued and as a result i have rounded off one of the wheelbolts hence cant get the wheel off ... it's booked into a garage on monday to sort it though any ideas how i can get this out myself with limited tools ? the alloys are the original solitudes thus the bolt is pretty well regressed into the wheel so not easy to access !!! any help appreciated (whats really pissed me off is the fact that its the rear wheel that's stuck even tho' it was 2 new front tyres i had done - why do they insist on doing more than you ask them to !!!) purple highline monster 0
only thing you can try is hammering on a slightly smaller socket, i think they are 17 bolt heads so maybe if its got some shoulder left a 16 would force onto it? you can get a tool from halfords that is a multi fit socket, it works like one of those metal gizmos that you can make a hand impression on if you know what i mean?, its lots of small metal rods that shape to whatever size bolt/nut it comes into contact with, dunno how good they are though? they are very popular with car wheel thieves!! other than that it will be a case of welding a nut onto the existing one only trouble with that is you may dmage the wheel a little
mk3anni 0
I'm amazed you rounded off a wheel bolt. Where you using a multi sided socket by any chance???If you where try using a 6 sided socket. These grip the flats and are nigh on impossible to round off with.
vr6highline28 0
yes it was a multi sided socket ! tonight i'll try the size 16 (not female !) one to see if it can hammer it on ..... it just annoys me so much that these garages overtighten the bolts ... or maybe its me being a southern wimp softie ??!!!??? mk3anni 0
Errr, no, dont hammer a socket on yet, try using a 6 sided socket.Chances are you've only butchered the corners and not the flats.
garfy 0
Hijacking this thread, if I may be so rude. How do you get the locking wheel bolts off then (3 pin type), when some @rse at the tyre fitters snapped yours and VW want the equivalent of the GDP of a small nation to supply a new one? mk3anni 0
Errrr, Most tyre places have a special tool that can remove them, if not machine mart sell them but you'd need an impact gun to go with it.
