adamsimmons 0
Hi everyone,I'm new on the forum, I'm just wondering if any one would be able to shed some light on to my slight problem. I need to change the thermostat and a few other things in my car , but I have managed to snap my bonnet cable. Now, I cant get under the bonnet. Is there any thing that I can do as my ideas are now getting a bit extreme to ways opening the bonnet.Any help would be much appreciated.
danb 0
jack the front end of the car up and stick your head under the front bumper and look up the front of your engine and see if you can see the bonnet catch and use a bar of some sort to release the catch ! VR6_Absy 0
take ur grill, bumper and slam panel off, then u can get at the bonnet cath to remove the 2 bolts (these r awkward) and voila bits everywhere but ur bonnet is open. I tried messing about but just wasted time and eventually started taking bits off Good Luck ;-)
rodney 17
I've had to do this. You do have to take all the bits off the front (grill/panel etc) to give you access. you need to try and allow yourself as much manouvering room as possible. Also worth a mention wrap your tools in masking tape to protect the metal work as it is easy to scract it. It is a pain and takes time but thats the only way I managed it.Btw the cable may not have snapped. It's a 2 peice cable and has a little plastic thing to join the two halves together (on the divers side of the engine bay about half way down close to the top where bonnet meets body) mine had popped open and off from its' mount. So just in case put a tie wrap around it once you are in to ensure it can't happen againLike I said. bit of a pig so good luckRod

adamsimmons 0
Thanks guys for replying. After many man hours spent trying to lever the bonnet open, I started to get some stupid ideas like using a disc cutter, thats when I realised that I needed some one else without psychotic thoughts of mashing and cutting my car to pieces just to get the bonnet open. I managed to get it down to dubusiness to get it open for me, they did a very good job, but it still took them a good couple of hours to get it open. Next time I'll make sure I don't make any stupid mistakes next time(like cable tieing the airfilter bracket to the binnet cable, whoops)Cheers again guys.
