    Cheers for the reply VR6Pete. Think you're right with the slipping suggestion. Took it to work and back yesterday, thankfully got home as the clutch is now almost none existent and gear change is a real struggle! I've done a bit of searching and sounds like it might be the clutch release bearing which is knackered. So I'm now looking at replacing the clutch, problem is the two quotes I got are £300 clutch + 4 hours labour (£320) at VW dealers or £550(ish) all in from independent specialist! I've seen a Sachs clutch kit which I think would be a good bet at various places online for between Â

    Hi guys, Hopefully someone can help me on this one. Whilst driving to work this morning, I noticed a fast tapping noise in the engine bay (nearside I think) everytime time the clutch pedal was fully released. I have noticed recently that acceleration in low gears has been somewhat laboured/delayed! I have no problem changing gear and the clutch seems ok otherwise. This sound is pretty loud (pedestrian reactions a giveaway) everytime I fully released the pedal. I spent the whole drive home with my foot slightly on the clutch pedal which I'm sure won't do me any favours in the long run. Any ide

    Cheers Varr6pete, I managed to get a replacement, albeit second hand, ABS ECU from ebay at a decent price and got round to fitting it last week. It seems to have sorted the problem out although it is still early days as the problem with mine was very intermittent. Just keeping my fingers well and truly crossed everytime I get in and drive! If the problem comes back, will definitely send the old ECU away to starsoldering. Is nice to hear more positive feedback about them. Just a quick question for everyone. Is the braking compromised only when the ABS light is on? I say this because mine was on

    Seem to think I read somewhere that EDS refers to an Electronic Distribution System which regulates front/rear braking? Think the guy said if ABS light on, EDS is also compromised. Might be wrong but....

    Not to worry jimmyb, thanks for checking. Going to have a look at taking the ECU off tommorow. Hopefully the 4 bolts don't provide any headaches as can see there is only a limited amount of space to work with in that corner! Will then get in touch with Starsoldering to get a quote for re-soldering the dry joints. Will update soon. Many thanks to all for your help

    Hi, Yeah I saw that thread, just had a re-read. Didn't realise it was done by finny. To be honest though, think this might be beyond me. I'm very much a 'do it yourself and know it's done right' type of person but don't have all the tools at present as still building up bit by bit. I could see me spending £30-50 plus time spent and getting nowhere, I've done it before! The girlfriend has a panic attack anytime I say 'I'm going out to have a look at the car' cos if it doesn't go how I want it to, the day's a write off! 8-) Cheers

    Thanks finny, I can only find one available at present with the exact same pump/ecu numbers and this is going for £250! No surprise it's still there then. Remanufacturing mine will cost me the best part of £200 but like you say, the 2 year guarantee would make that option worthwhile. The only other one I've seen matching this ecu number had a different pump number (I think 1H2 614 217 C). This was going for £60 or best offer. I made a token offer for it but didn't get a response. This would work fine though right? Cheers

    Hi, I'm new to the forum so hopefully I'm in the right place to post this thread. I've got a 1997 Golf VR6 which has ABS issues. At it's last MOT, the VW specialist garage highlighted an intermittent fault with the rear right sensor and replaced it which got it through the MOT. However, the ABS light came on very soon after, and Vagcom shows up the very same fault. From the vast amount of information I have read, it appears that a faulty ABS control module is the most likely cause. Does this sound about right to you guys? There is absolutely no pattern to when the ABS light comes on and stays
