  1. Hi, I have to bring a 22 foot caravan from the UK to here where I live in Luxembourg. I was toying with putting a tow bar on my VR6 to do the job. Yes, there is plenty of torque but what about stability with such a large van? Anyone got any experience of this? I'm not sure of the kerb-side weight or things like that. Thanks Phil
  2. Hi, This is weird (or maybe not) but over the last few days it's been harder to turn the key in either door to trigger the central locking/unlocking. Yesterday my key went round and theat lock stopped working, it wouldn't trigger the C/L or even pop the lock on the door itself. This morning the otherside went!! My boot lock never responded to the key - now I'm locked out! I'll get in, but any of this sound like a common VW fault? 1992 VR6 thanks in advance Phil
  3. Gordon, Cheers for that! I'll go and source one online then! unless there are any here? Do you think it will make a difference with the engine being a 2.9 from a synchro? I'm guessing the part number the VW dealer quoted me is a replacement for the one thats in the car but I dont know if that is the original for that year/model as it should have a 2.8 engine in. Thanks Phil
  4. Guys, Is the ECU the type of thing a semi-competent techy can fit him/herself? Gonna get myself a Haynes unless there is a better, specific VR6 manual. cheers Crackers
  5. Hi folks, sorry for cross-post but i put this original message on the Engine Maintenance but this forum seems more appropriate - Sorry to be a bit vague here, but on a recent trip through France i lost power at 180km/hour in the outside lane. The Luxembourg assistance took my car to a French VW dealer who had the car two weeks, said it would cost €1400 for a new EMS and then came back yesterday saying they no longer make the part and cant help! The car is a 1992 vr6 with a replacement 2.9 engine from a Jetta Synchro so I believe. Any clues as to how I can fix this, get the right chip/EMS an
  6. Hi guys, My French held up well! I have the part number that the VW dealer says it needs - two items actually. 021 906 258A 021 997 258GOV (Not sure this number is 100% correct) Can anyone help me identify what these parts are, where I can get them from, approx how much and can a non-genuine, possibly enhanced replacement be bought instead if these are standard EMS parts for the VR6? thanks guys - beers on me when you pass Luxembourg later this year for help! Regards PC

  8. Hi, 1992 VR6 (Left-hand drive) I only have a key (no remote) and sometimes when I lock the car my passenger window goes down! Secondly, the drivers deadlock came on while the door was open (at least I think it was a deadlock. The latch closed and interior pull knob or key would not release it. After ages fumbling, locking and unlocking I finally got it to open. The opposite door did the same today. Is there a quick fix for this? Anyone else had the same problem? If it's not a 'feature' I am guessing I have some faulty electrics Cheers Phil
