Have stuck my head under the bonnet tonight and it does have a coil pack so fingers croessed its that thats up the swanny.
mate if you could come down over the weekend that would be tops any time to suit you and i'll make sure i'm about, just of the a3 so should be an easyish ride.. Would it make life easier if i took the old unit out or best to hear her running?

would a coil pack failure cause the car to become so so loud though even on a lumpy tick over it sounds bad, i mean i think you could hear the VR miles away!!

Mate, no pic gonna be up for a while, was coming back into london this morning and the engine let go has dropped onto god know how many cylinders, sounds like a tank and is having compression issues, still runs but lumpy on idle and is running rich with a massive drop in power, any ideas?

No knocking or ticking, am thinking its more of a compression issue.
car will idle but is very lumpy and smells like running rich, no oil or coolant loss either.

Well its certainly not running on 6 how many its on i couldn't tell ya.
What does the coil pack do?

Engine has done 98k on a 94 plate. There was no bang or fracturing noise as it lost power, just souunds like engine is dragging in or pushing out loads of air is really lumpy on tick over and smells like its running rich

Guys,
have just had to park the VR up and get the tube to work, gutted.
Was cruising along at 50mph on the gas, but not hard, and suddenly a complete loss of power and a horrible horrible noise coming from the engine.
At first i thought manifold but a quick check leads me to think the engine is holed, does this sound like the symptoms to you guys. It hasnn't lost any fluids and still runs but like i say sounds like a tank and has no power at all.
Any comments appreciated

abslight comes on at start up flickers and the goes out as it should. The guys at the garage used the diagnostic adapter by the cigarette lighter to check for faults, is that VAG com?!?!?
sounds exaclty the same as my fault at low speeds it seems as though the abs can't figure out what is going on, i get a pump whirring going on at the same time too. How did you fix the problem?

New discs and pads all round and also cleaned all the sensors and reluctor wheels, was hoping that'd fix it too but no luck.

Hey guys really need your help. Am slowly woking my way through the faults of m newly bought VR, Bodywork is now looking tops and am moving onto the mechanicals.
The first major problem i have is that at low speeds there is a juddering coming through the brake pedal and at times the pedal goes firm, i have checked out the diagnostics and there are no fault codes coming up and the ABS light comes on and goes of as it should at start up. A local garage has said its the ABS pump, has anybody else had this problem, is it the pump and if so anyone know where i can get a cheap replacement.

Has anyone fitted Bilstein Streetline kit to their VR am looking to lower the car by 35-4omm but have pretty tight purse strings, max £250 any ideas?

Its time for the new wheels to have an oil and filter change, are OE parts ok or is it best to use aftermarket parts. At the moment the engine is completely standard.
Also does anyone knwo where to get sump from as this one has been hit, hard and the gasket is leaking som time to swap that out too!!

Am getting vibration under acceleration am thinking the engine mounts are on the way out. How easy are they to replace and are OE parts ok or are there better aftermarket ones that are better

Have just bought a 94 VR6, when you leave the lights on and you're getting out of the car a green LED lights up on the light switch to warn you the lights are still on, should there also be a siren or beep coming from that unit as a warning?
Also anyone got a wiper stalk with MFA switch for sale?
