  1. Hi, I have a K plate 92 2.8VR6 mk3 golf ( ODB1 )

Last night I fitted a bonrath power rohr pipe to replace the pipe between the MAF sensor and the throttle body, as my plastic one was cracked. and also a new induction kit. The car already had an induction kit on its just a newer one, other one was looking a bit old.

When I started the car up, the idle was very irrectic, going up and down all the time, I have cleaned out the idle valve before and it was fine but it has now stopped clicking. MAF is Fine, Oil filter is not an oiled one, and all plugs & conections etc back on properly.

was looking at the car for ages then, one mate said they had seen this problem with an Audi 100 ( early ones have same idle valve) just to clamp the hose between the idle valve and the bonrath pipe. So I actually blanked off boths ends of the pipes and the can is now running fine...

Only thing I am worried about is an I doing any damage driving it like this?? Its only temp till I get a new idle valve..

    Cheers

  2. Leads only changed 1000 miles ago plugs are new and are denso, which are way better than the bosch i first had and then the VW ones which were guff.

only place to plug in is VW garage in this area and its 60 miles away and only open during the week, im only off at weekends, I think its more a fuel problem, it seems to only have done since I nearly ran out of fuel a few months ago.

  3. I have a 92 vr6 golf, and sometimes when im driving along the road, the car seems to chock its self, and then suddenly go so its sort of like kangrooin?! but it always clears its self,

Have changed fuel filter, checked carbon filter, cleaned air filter ( induction cone ), cleaned air mass sensor, cleaned throttle body etc...

The car is quite high mileage 160K but it is serviced regularly, I have it in auto trader today so would like to try and sort.

PS i only do about 2 miles a day in town drivin, could it be that the car just needs used more often?!

Think it has been chipped as well.

    Cheers guys

  4. Hi Guys

I have a Cobra 5320 ( 4S5320STC ) alarm on my car, and have been trying to find out if it is

    a) Thatham approved

    and

    B) cat 1 or cat 2

I can get on the thatcham website but can not down load the list of approved alarms as my computer is not compatable with pdf files, could someone look for me or maybe someone knows already?

This would be a great help

    Cheers

  5. Not had time to check pump yet but have checked the cylinders compresion, and its a ok! thank god.. its all betwwen 175psi and 185psi ( 12-13bar approx )...

But took my plugs out to clean again last night and remembered something, when I got the car the spark plugs were single tipped, and I changed them, with plugs I bought from VW, which were double tipped...

The ones in the car are 101 000 035 AB ( VW number ) , but it says in my manual they should be 101 000 025 AA..

not sure if the picture in the manual is correct but it shows a single tip and says to ajust the gap to 0.7mm. but the doulbe tip are none adjustable and the gap is at least 1mm at the mo...?

Do you think all these probs could be because VW gave me the incorrect plugs?

another thnig when i called VW for new plugs the other day they said £60 for plugs I only paid £25 for these ones off the same VW garage? makes me think more they are wrong ones...

  6. Ok im about ready to cry as the car is running really bad again!!

Black smoke, missing, and doing about 12 mpg, cant get hold of the guy to reset my ECU! surely it could not be just because of that?!

I love my VR6 but am getting sick of it now!! also just had to do 2 rear springs, wheel bearing and need some paint work touched up!

The plugs looked ok once I had cleaned them. but they must be black again, could this be a more serious running problem other than a sensor, probe or ECU prob......?

  7. Three things I'd do' date=' change fuel filter, easyish job not too expensive. Get someone to check your MAF, some 'oiled' induction kits can cock the MAF up. Most importantly check your ISV (do a search on here) out and give it a clean, can cause all manner of running problems.[/quote']

Have changed fuel filter, cleaned ISV and also the MAF, and also the throttle body, the induction kit is not oiled, I cleaned it throughly when I got the car. I have only done 3000 miles since I got the car

  8. i know how you feel....vr6's are very disheartening when they're not working right.

i don't get why it was thinkin it was doing 49kph when it was at a standstill' date=' never heard of that before!

i'd certainly check the bay for split vacuum hoses as i had similar symptoms when one of mine got burnt by the manifold (it was the one to the left of the TB). [/quote']

Have replaced that one, as it was burnt, will check it again!

  9. Hi guys, me again, think I am going to shoot my car!! or kick it maybe!

Ok month or so back was having probs withs, missin, black smoke, and irratic idle ~:(

Had it diagnostic tested, and it came up that the car was doing 49kilometer per hr, when it was not movin, and also no voltage from lambder probe.... %-6

Next day I was at the Scottish meet, and she was running v bad! !ill :o chuffed out black smoke and ran on 4 for ages, spat out flames etc..

I fitted a lambder probe a couple of days later, and also have fixed a couple of air leaks.

My fuel comsp has gone from 18mpg to 33mpg! so its deff better... No black smoke ( as I cleaned the plugs when fittin the lambder ).

But every now and then I get a huge gerk like the fuel is being starved and then loads going in? could there be an air leak I have missed? or could this be something else. still have a bit of irrectic idle as well?!

PS. havent had ECU reset yet, getting this done at the weekend? Also I have an induction kit, could this be causing probs? :)

  10. I've got pics of the hall sender and my original fuel pressure regualtor if anyone wants to see them for future reference. Also have relay' date=' front anti roll bar drop links and koni adjustable pics, old parts and new replacement parts.[/quote']

Hi I am having a sort of simular prob, mine is missing on start up for about first 5 to 10 mins, think only running on 4! then has an irretic idle..someone sugested temp sendor to ECU, going to fit tonight, and hope it solves the problem, need to get my car pluged in somwhere, cant find a VW garage oin Scotland that does this on a Satuarday, as I live in Oban and nearest VW garage is stirling or Fort William, so cant take during the week... Can other garages diagnostic test as well..

  11. Cheers, it does have an idle valve, thats the Idle stabliser valve ( ISV ) that we took off and cleaned.. Sensor has arrived today.. going to check dissy cap and rotor arm as you have suggested.

one other point if I fit the new sensor does the ECU need reset, wasnt sure as some cars will still read the same fault even when new sensors are fitted, therefore needing the ECU reset?!

  12. Hi

    I have a Mk3 Golf VR6 - 92 k plate

Have been having probs with missing on start up for approx the first 5 mins, and so juddering while driving ( not very often ) .

My other half took of the ISV and cleaned it and all the pipes, then cleaned the throttle body, he did'nt remove the thottle body.

Now the car is still missing, and once that stops the idle is very erratic, reving its self, and seems to be running rich!

I called to VW garage and asked them to plug it into the diagnostics comp, they told me ok but they will need to rematch the ECU to the throttle body, is this correct since we didnt remove it ?

I now this is not a big job anyway 5mins on the diag machine as far as Im aware,

PS has new plugs, leads, and also cleaned the induction kit..

Not losing water, no mayo in Oil etc....

Think it could be cam sensor, or temp sensor etc...

have ordered a temp sender as its only £9.54 + VAT today, see if it makes a diff, first.

Any other Ideas if that dosent work?
