If you're after an increase in power for your vr6 a remap will only give an increase in power on earlier (OBD1) golf vr6's. It won't give any increase in power at all on an obd2 vr6 (golf vr6's manufactuered from mid 1995 onwards). A remap is needed after adding big mods to get the fuelling spot on and prevent pinking and detonation.

Do you have an OBD1 or OBD2? If you have a standard OBD2 as said above don't bother with a remap unless you already have BIG mods (such as those mentioned: cams, shrick, or sc) otherwise its pointless. If you have a standard vr6 then I would recommend a cat back exhaust and good induction kit as starters which shouldn't be too expensive, and should take power to the 190-200bhp range. A remap won't be needed with these mods.

If you have a standard OBD1 golf vr6 a remap will give a slight improvement in power but I would only do this after you have done all the mods you are likely to do. A good and very cheap mod is to enlarge the butterfly on the throttle body on the obd1 (this can't be done on the obd2) and the exhaust and filter upgrade too.

I haven't used AMD myself but I'm sure some other people on here can give some reviews.

Good luck mate.
