Early mk3 GTI's so I would presume VR's too, had a load proportioning valve attached to the rear axle.

This works on the basis that the back of the car is lower due to additional weight, so puts more braking pressure to that end. If you lower it, you have to adjust it so that it is in the position it used to be in when the car was unladen, if that makes sense!

i thought as much, tried last night adjusting it, no difference, now decided to junk it & have bought an adjustable one for inside the car, so now will also have to run the line inside the car, i have the proper workshop manual about 2" thick tells you bugger all,
