i've posted this in the general chat section, but i've been recommended to post here for a better response.

so i finally got my vr6, in an auto.. i know its not the same as a manual but this offer was too good to pass up! :P anyway i've read the auto transmissions usualy need rebuilt around the 130,000km mark. mine has done about that much, and it seems to be going fine. (apparently the first 110,000k were country kms, maybe less work for transmission) i was wondering what exactly i should look out for, in terms of problems with the transmission. what are the symptoms of needing a rebuild?

it may be how the auto vr6 is geared, but coming up to about 60km/h it revs around 25,000 to 30,000 and im waiting for it to change.. instead it will rev harder and change at 70-80km/h. but if i want to cruise at 60km/h it wont up a gear unless i pull back on the throttle and then it decides to change gear. should it be changing earlier? or is this how it is geared, for performance? or... do i have a lazy auto gear box?? if this is how its geared it may be better, so it is not always hunting for gears...

anyway i look forward to your responses. thanks!

Hello mate, i've an auto for my sins-too good to pass up also!!

The Box changes to 4th at about 30-35 mph, depending on loading ect, it is annoying waiting for it to change up and i too find i rev it up and lift off to get it to change-just annoying, nothing else.

Mine was fitted with a new VW box at about 100.000 miles( not by me-i'm not that rich!!) I would imagine clunky changes and generally not being very smooth would be a sign of a tired box.

Obviously rural miles would stress it less, i'm in the country and it spends lots of time in top.
