matth76 1
HiI've seen some nice wheels for sale. They look good but will they fit my golf mk3 vr6? They are 15" split rims but I want to continue using 205 tyre width. Is their width of 6" too small? By the way I know very little about ET offsets and actual alloy width. From what I know I think the alloy width on a standard 15" bbs vr6 alloy is 7.5" (is this correct or are they 6.5"?)... not sure what the et offset is though. If I go up to 16" on alloys (still with a 205 tyre width) what offset and alloy width would I need... and same if I go for 17" alloys? Here is the alloy name and size:VW GOLF `BBS RS796 ` ALLOY WHEELS 6X15 98-05 SIZE IS 6 X 15 ET38 5 X 100Thanks for any help. MrBen 0
Standard 15's are 6.5 wide IIRC. I think a 205 is a bit wide for a 6" rim - 195 should be ok. Rim width is up to you really, but a 7 or 7.5 is easiest for avoiding scrubbage. ET around the 38 mark with the above width keeps things tidy. The offset and width would not change with a larger diameter, though of course you would need to reduce the profile of the tyre - ie with 205's you'd want a 205/45 on 16's and a 205/40 on 17's.
