stockers 1 Posted November 4, 2005 Report Share Posted November 4, 2005 got an inch sized blemish in my paintwork, went to 'chips away' they reckon its bird shite thats eaten into the lacquer and said the whole rear panel would need painting.i know they aren't taking the piss as they polished out a scratch i thought would need spraying for Link to post Share on other sites
matth76 1 Posted November 4, 2005 Report Share Posted November 4, 2005 I have a similar faint mark which I can't seem to get out... caused by bl**dy bird sh*t. If I ever see even a small bit on my car I wash it off asap. For some reason our paint work seems to be more vulnerable than most cars...or it just shows up imperfections more.The only thing I can suggest is T-cut (try it several times over and wait till dry to see if it makes a difference) or if that really doesn't work the last resort is paint compound... which as you may know is similar to t-cut just a bit more abrasive (and actually used in the paint respraying process which is used to smooth and polish the car... I used it on my last car which was a matt finish (as I had resprayed it myself!)... so I'm not sure how it will turn out on quality metalic paint...although if the area is already blemished you can't lose anything by trying to rub lightly with compound. Do small bit first and see if that removes the blemish. Link to post Share on other sites

Matt W 4 Posted November 4, 2005 Report Share Posted November 4, 2005 Its because bird poo is acidic, it just eats the paint away. Best to always remove bird crap ASAP with a damp rag. Just let it sit on the spot to soften it then wipe away.As to getting it out have a look at this Meguiars thread regarding bird poop and other problems with paint. Basically in order to get rid of the mark your gonna have to remove surrounding material to get the area looking flat.
