oldboy 0
Got a 98 VR6 and looking at ways to perk it up, at the moment its completely std so got a clean sheet to work with, 63k on the clock. Putting Koni's on it first and a few other bits and pieces then its the engine's turn. Was wondering if anybody has gone down the nitrous route.
Guest
I'm seriously thinking about it, was told a kit for a 50bhp shot would be in region of £700. Anyone know if thats cheap/expensive?
gazbrook 0
I suppose it is a relatively cheap mod but i personally think that nitrous is a terrible idea unless you have you are a drag strip racer and can afford another engine when it melts your engine , i have heard of £500 being mentioned for nitrous before but that might not have been a fitted price on a vr6 !! as for the standard 98 vr6, how many miles has it got on it i don't think that it could handle nitrous without uprating other parts on the car too,i would also prefer PERMANENT extra power ie exhaust, schrick, supercharger etc, not gas that you have to refill all the time
antera309 3
A good progressive controller for the Nitrous and appropriate fuelling mods will produce reliable power. Risk to the engine is actually minimal if is done right.
MarkGolf 6
N20 actually makes the engine run cooler, no way of it melting down due to the addition of n20, no matter how much faster it runs when the n20 is being released...Well, thats what I've learnt from my local installer buddy
Guest
You can add upto 50bhp on most engines without having to do any mods, anymore than that and other bits may need uprating. Did anyone see 5th gear when they put nitrous in a Golf Tdi and it was quicker than some supercar over a 1/4 mile!Nitrous is as permanent as most other mods, a turbo only kicks in at a certain rev range etc. N2O only is used when you have the pedal to the floor, so it works whenever you need the power, unlike a supercharger which is guzzling petrol all the time. NOS has got to be the easiset, cheapest and simplest way of getting huge power!
