The new VW Golf GTE now features a redesigned front bumper, and the decorative blue details to indicate that it is a car with plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Under the hood specifications of the powertrain remained unchanged, a 1.4-liter TSI petrol with 150 hp (110 kW) and a 102 hp (75 kW) electric motor, while the total combined output is rated at 204 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The new GTE can cover up to 50km (31 miles) in all-electric mode, with its total range being around 880km (546 miles). Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, specifically developed for hybrid models. Besides the Golf GTE, VW also presented the redesigned Golf GTD, which is also available in Variant form. Both cars continue to be powered by a 2.0-liter TDI engine that delivers 184 hp (135kW) at 3500 rpm and 380 Nm of torque available between 1,750 and 3,250 rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed automatic DSG dual clutch transmission is available as an option. When equipped with the dual-clutch transmission, the new Golf GTE is capable of reaching 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, while the Variant in 7.9 seconds. Combined fuel economy is rated at 4.4 l/100km (4.7 l/100 km, wagon). Like the rest of the range, refreshed Golf GTE and GTD comes equipped with new infotainment systems, sports seats, new LED headlights and an upgraded range of driver assistance systems, including City Emergency Braking function with new Pedestrian Monitoring (Front Assist), the new Traffic Jam Assist function (partially automated driving up to 60 km/h) and Emergency Assist. The GTD now starts at €30,800 3-door with a manual gearbox, while the wagon version kicks off at €32,475 (DSG extra €2,000). The GTE starts at €36,900.
